Ben was nervous when they walked out with the rest of their class, everyone heading for their cars. As much as they’d joked about Ben owing Gage a kiss, he could hardly do it in public, and there was no way he was taking Gage home. He’d never stop with one kiss.
“Well, guess this is goodnight,” he said.
“Yep. It was fun.”
“It was,” Ben agreed wholeheartedly.
The more time he spent with Gage, the more he liked him. Which was why he needed to proceed with caution. He’d agreed to do these so-called dates with Gage, but it didn’t have to be anything more than a couple of friends hanging out. He could use a friend outside of the hospital anyway. His mom was pretty much his only contact outside the ER these days.
Ben shifted toward the parking lot. “Well, guess I better be going. Just text me with the details for next week.”
Gage put a hand on his wrist. “Hold up. Aren’t you forgetting something?”
Ben’s heart sped up. “Um, but there’s people around, so …”
Gage grinned. “Trust me,” he said, and then he was pulling Ben by the hand down the sidewalk.
“Gage, maybe you haven’t figured this out, but I’m not so great with the trust thing,” he said. “Please tell me where we’re going.”
Gage turned into a side lot of the store, out of sight of the rest of the cooking class attendees. He pulled Ben around the corner after him, and pressed him against the rough brick exterior.
It was dark on this side of the store, so dark Ben couldn’t see Gage’s eye color, but he could make out enough of his expression to see a smile.
“Just right here,” he murmured.
The trickle of unease he’d felt slid away. This was Gage. He was larger and stronger than Ben, but he hadn’t been aggressive at all the night they hooked up. Even the way he’d pressed Ben up against the bricks had been gentle.
Gage leaned in and whispered in his ear. “Can I kiss you?”
Just hearing him ask permission had Ben melting on the spot. He nodded jerkily, unable to find his voice as Gage’s breath heated his neck.
Slowly, Gage pulled back and cradled Ben’s face in his hands.
Ben was burning for that kiss, so worked up the blood rushed loudly in his ears. His dick was getting hard, and Gage’s lips hadn’t even met his yet.
Just a kiss, he reminded himself. No sex.
Gage leaned in and brushed a kiss across his lips.
Ben’s lips parted, a sigh slipping free, as he relaxed under Gage’s touch. To his shock, Gage didn’t take the invitation to deepen the kiss. Dry lips brushed together briefly before air swept in between them.
Ben’s eyes shot open. “What was that?”
Gage grinned. “It was a kiss. I’m being a gentleman here,” he said. “Someone once told me it was better to leave them wanting more, so …”
“Fuck that,” Ben growled.
Gage’s laugh of surprise was cut off abruptly as Ben grabbed a fistful of his shirt and yanked him in for a real kiss.
